Lake Belmore: Croydon's Liquid Gold Oasis

On the edge of Croydon lies a treasure more valuable than the gold that once laced through this land  – Lake Belmore. This expansive aquatic haven isn't just a scenic marvel, it's the lifeline providing precious water to the town.

Lake Belmore stands as a jewel of the Gulf Savannah, it is the largest freshwater body in the region. Locals and travellers alike find solace in its cool embrace, creating memories through swimming, fishing, skiing, canoeing, and shared moments of relaxation.

Angler's Paradise and Annual Fishing Showdown

For fishing enthusiasts, Lake Belmore is stocked with Red Claw, Barramundi, and Sooty Grunter, complemented by naturally occurring Black Bream. The Barramundi and Sooty Grunter fingerlings released annually ensure a fantastic fishing season. Anglers, take note: a Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP) is a must for fishing in Lake Belmore. This permit covers all impounded waters in Queenland and can be purchased on line or in person at the Croydon Post Office. The annual Barra & Bream Fishing Competition, hosted by the Croydon Fishing and Boating Club, adds an extra splash of excitement to the angling scene.

Recreational Oasis, Just a Stone's Throw Away

Situated a mere 4 km from town, and reached by a fully paved road, Lake Belmore beckons with its modern recreational facilities. The dam, constructed in 1995 as the town's primary water supply, evolved into a destination for swimmers, boaters, and families. A boat ramp, electric barbeques,  toilets and showers, a bird hide, and a children's playground make Lake Belmore one of the best-kept recreational secrets in the Gulf Savannah. It's not just a lake: it's Croydon's oasis of aquatic delight as well as freshwater supply in the Outback.
