Heritage Festival

Celebrating 140 Years of Stories, Culture and Community

In Croydon, history doesn’t sit quietly behind glass. It greets you on the street, catches your eye in unexpected corners, and quietly reminds you that this small outback town once played a very big role in Queensland’s story.
In 2026, Croydon celebrates 140 years since gold changed everything, and the Heritage Festival invites you to be part of that story — not just to observe it, but to experience it.

For one special week from 20 to 26 June, the town comes together to celebrate what makes Croydon so deeply loved: its stories, its creativity, and its strong sense of community.

A town where history finds you

Here, visitors don’t have to go looking for history — it tends to find them.

Gold-rush echoes appear in heritage-listed buildings, along shaded streets and open verandahs. Mining relics sit proudly beneath wide skies all around you. The Iguana Consuls Mining Museum —  our open-air mining museum invites you to wonder where sweat and hard work and incredible loud crashing noises of machinery surfaced all at once.  Cultural stories continue to unfold at the revitalised Chinese Temple site, while art, design and thoughtful interpretation weave the past into the present.

The Heritage Festival brings all of this to life, inviting visitors to wander, explore and discover Croydon at their own pace.

A week of celebration

Throughout the festival, you’ll find a welcoming mix of experiences for all ages — some relaxed, some lively, some reflective — all unmistakably Croydon.
Expect:

  • Live music and local performances under open skies

  • Heritage experiences that tell Croydon’s story in creative ways

  • Family-friendly activities and hands-on moments of discovery

  • A mix of free events and ticketed experiences

  • Special Gulflander journeys that continue a rail story more than a century in the making

Above all, you’ll find a town proud of where it’s come from and excited to share it.

More than a festival

The Heritage Festival is also an invitation — to slow down, stay awhile and see Croydon beyond the event program. Walk the streets, chat with locals, explore the details, and let the stories reveal themselves in small, memorable ways.

Because in Croydon, heritage isn’t just something we preserve — it’s something we live, share and celebrate.

Event details, schedules and ticket information will be released closer to the festival.

Check back regularly as the program takes shape.
